European College is a private Technical and Vocational Education Training institution Licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Somaliland with the mandate to offer vocational training in in the Horn of Africa. The students are drawn from all Somaliland regions.

It was founded in 2014 and currently is in Public Private Partnership with the government to foster vocational training and skilling youths as a mechanism of enhancing skills and employability.

After installation of the state of the art equipment for hospitality and Construction, the dire need for renewable energy resources training was identified and so the programs were expanded to five.

The fast growth has be due to reliable funding and collaboration with government and other development partners, reliable financial management system. Currently working with Save the Children on a 12 months hospitality Management Program and grants from the government have facilitated the great work of training that is rather expensive.


  1. Giving opportunity for training and career in vocational skills urgently needed in the rapidly growing sectors
  2. Providing a second chance to the marginalized youth in the country by unlocking their potential to as artisans and technicians to curb the cost of unemployment
  3. Advance the practical approaches to training and skills development through specialized courses tailored to suit local and international demands of socioeconomic development of the country and the Horn region.
  4. Provide professional TVET educational programs that employ technologies for sustainable resource use all beneficial to livelihoods and economic transformation of disadvantaged society sectors.
  5. Actively engage public and private sector partners in teaching of applied sciences and technologies, attitude change, understanding and appreciation of the relevance of practical skills in the occupational and economic life.

Strategic Agenda:

To integrate more relevant courses in the college programs and ensure quality teaching and training in applied science and modern technologies for highly competitive output and outcomes to the skills market.

Mobilize public support logistical and financial, to enable capabilities for hiring and retaining highly professional and qualified faculty, afford state of the art technologies for participatory learning, and fully use the existing tools ensure usefulness graduates to the society.

Consistently review curricula to align it with the changing needs and delivery of skills, so that all students are prepared to apply skills for community benefit and innovation.

Partner with local and international organizations private or public in furthering the development needs of the institution on logistical, technical and financial to promote training and community engagement to transform society and humanity.

Job prospects

Due to functionality of the College curricula and programs in the changing development needs in the Energy sector, construction and hospitality management, food hygiene and preparation; Programs offered are tailored to society needs, inter-disciplinary approach to teaching and practice for the learners’ maximum benefit.

Our graduates are equipped for job creation, practical innovations and quality service for better livelihoods.

Because of high per unit rate of electricity, there is a rise in the number of solar energy businesses in Somaliland. Small Solar Photovoltaic systems are now being installed at ‘off grid’ sites to provide electricity for charging electronic devices or to power irrigation pumps replacing small diesel driven pumps.

The location and annual climate of Somaliland make it a very suitable location for solar energy systems, however, limited local knowledge of the technology and poor design and installation, results in projects not delivering their expected benefits and hence leads to a loss of confidence.

Drought, flash floods and unemployment call for employable skills sustainable education for development. These programs respond to this cause!

Safeguarding the environment, maintaining quality supplies of alternatives energy, skills development to enhance employment of youths in the energy sector will help balance natural resource and society needs while sustaining a healthy ecosystem.

Facilities and academic resources

All our programs and courses are practical based relying on the skilling laboratories to give the student hands-on learning sessions. State of the art apparatus for the programs provided in Electricity and energy, Construction, Food preparation and Plumbing at the college and for industrial training with the partner companies across the city. It is our expectation to continue providing the best teaching technologies to the learner despite the high cost of vocational education equipment.

The Renewable Energy Institute building provides classroom facilities together with a renewable energy laboratory and an electronics workshop. These facilities when fully equipped will deliver curriculum at different levels within the College.
